We are Comedy Plaza!

Comedy on terrestrial channels both in the UK and the US is dying.

Mid-evening schedules which used to be the natural home of comedy have been given over to reality and talent shows as well as cooking and house moving formats.

ITV recently announced that they weren’t doing sitcoms any more.

TV companies are inherently risk averse and disinclined to innovative or commission new or controversial comedy ideas. They would rather invest millions in remakes of old formats like Open All Hours, Cold Feet and Gavin and Stacey because they feature established stars and come with a ready-made audience. For comedy commissioners who are worried about backing new talent and risking a flop, it’s a no-brainer.

The future of comedy is online and that is where COMEDYPLAZA comes in. Our aim is twofold:

  1. To create original, innovative comedy with our team of professional writers.
  2. To mentor new writers and performers and give them a platform for their work.
